Exports to Russia yet to come on track again

The Russian authorities had imposed a ban on import of sesame seeds from India last year. But it was lifted later on with the requirement of pre-shipment testing certificate from Shri Ram Institute. The authority has approved just one lab for this certificate.

Due to delay in issuance of the certificate from this one approved lab , the shipments from India are getting delayed. Exporters fear they may lose orders as well buyers. Russia mainly purchases sundried hulled sesame seeds from India.


Less production to hit sesame seeds export

The approx. 25 percent decrease in crop due to weather has made the sesame seed prices to jump a great deal this year. With already hit by rupee appreciation and now the high procurement prices, exports of sesame seeds is expected to drop from India.

Gulf, Fareast are the big buyers of natural white sesame seeds whereas European countries and US buys hulled sesame seed in big quantity from India.
